Violet Petyarre [c1946-]
Violet Petyarre hails from the current pre-eminent dynasty of the indigenous artworld - the Petyarre family. A sister to the internationally renowned Kathleen and Gloria Petyarre, Violet is a highly collectable artist in her own right. She was one of the founding members [along with her sisters and her aunt, the late great Emily Kngwarreye] of the Utopian batik art movement in the 1970s and started transferring her diverse talents to canvas in 1988. Since then, Violet's works have been extensively exhibited and collected all over the world - including our own National Gallery in Canberra.
