Mitjili Napurulla [c1945-]
Mitjili is certainly an indigenous artist who hails from an impressive artistic background. Her father was the late Tjunkiya Napaltjarri, a respected artist from Kintore, and her brother was the celebrated artist, the late Turkey Tolson. By employing a trademark style of unique symbolism, Mitjili has gained a reputation as one of the most innovative of the Desert painters. Her canvases feature strong colours and distinctive shapes, and figure prominently in many collections all around the world including our own National Gallery in Canberra. Mitjili’s work has achieved a top price of over $26,00 in a Lawson-Menzies auction.
