Marlene Young Nungurrayi [1973-]

Marlene Young Nungurrayi was born around 1973 into the Pintupi tribe in the Western Desert. One of the celebrated ‘young guns’ of the aboriginal contemporary artworld, Marlene’s father is Tommy Lowry Tjapaltjarri and her adopted father is the famous Doctor George Tjapaltjarri. She is also married to the well-known artist Adrian Young Tjupurrula, who is the nephew of famous Papunya Tula artist, the late Turkey Tolson. Her main Dreamings include important women's Ceremony Dreamings and the body paint designs associated with them. Marlene's use of bright colours is one of her trademarks, coupled with thickly layered paintwork, distinctive of the Kintore region.
