George Ward Tjungurrayi [c1945-]
Hailing from a strong artistic ancestry, George shares the same father as Willy Tjungurrayi and the late Yala Yala Gibbs. George, who won the 2004 Wynne Prize for landscape painting is now one of the highest regarded senior Pintupi painters. His amazing works centre around the Tingari Dreaming stories that date back to creation time - the deeper meanings of which are only available to the initiated of certain tribes. These traditional ‘line and dot’ paintings feature extensively in many private and public prestigious collections all over the world including our own National Gallery in Canberra. Several large George Ward’s ‘Tingari’ pieces have sold for over $40,000 at auction.
