George Hairbrush Tjungurrayi [1945-]
Named as one of Australia's top 50 collectable artists by Australian Art Collector magazine, George is considered to be one of the most respected artists of the Western Desert. George hails from an impressive artistic pedigree - sharing the same birth father, he is the brother of renowned painters Willy Tjungarrayi and the late Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi. He began painting for Papunya Tula Artists in 1976 and by the early 1980s George was recognized as a senior Pintupi painter, gaining well-deserved international recognition. George’s numerous private and public collections include the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra, Art gallery of NSW in Sydney and the Victorian national Gallery, as well as featuring in many private and public international collections.
