Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi [1967-]
Gabriella is the eldest daughter of the one and only, the late Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, arguably the most renowned and influential contemporary aboriginal artist of all time. One of his paintings is credited with the honour of being the highest price at auction for an aboriginal painting - anywhere in the world. It was acquired by the National Gallery in Canberra for $2.4 mil in 2007. Gabriella’s career began at the age of 16 when she won an award in the prestigious Alice Springs Art Prize. It has continued to blossom from there to now also include exhibits in the National Gallery. To demonstrate her international appeal, her top auction price to date of $37,000 was achieved in Paris in 2008.
