Esther Bruno Nangala [1978-]
Esther is the extremely talented granddaughter of Naata Nungurrayi, an internationally recognised legend of the aboriginal art world. Although she later moved to Kintore, Esther was born in Alice Springs and schooled at Yirara College there where she was taught art and learnt both Pintupi and English. After returning to Kintore in 1999, Esther benefited from an invaluable apprenticeship under Naata and her skin sister, Nancy Ross Nungurrayi. Esther was also involved in several significant cultural initiatives including the translation of some traditional Pintupi songs into English. Esther’s bold innovative style is rapidly gaining well-earned recognition as an important and integral component in the future of contemporary desert art.
